The city of Osijek has shown an interesting inclination for contemporary technological varieties of city and intercity transportation throughout history. From the introduction of innovative contemporary river steamboats in 1818 that were at the forefront of transportation of goods and passengers for decades, to bringing the first railway line into operation in 1870 (Subotica – Osijek – Villany, Hungary), to the introduction of horse-cars in 1884, followed by electrical trams, even before San Francisco.
