Any kind of aid in poor and underdeveloped communities is accompanied by a number of dilemmas, doubts and questions. No matter to what extent the aid is well meant, it impinges on the personal dignity of people, frequently affects traditional interpersonal relationships and customs, and can very easily jeopardize fragile balances within cultures which are entirely alien to us. The consequences are unpredictable; in broader dimensions, they can even lead to certain forms of material, business and personal dependence or even to new forms of colonialism. Sad, even tragic examples are ample.
