The Faculty of Biotechnology stands on the edge of Rožna Dolina, where one can still feel the atmosphere of the once prestigious city neighbourhood of rich houses and gardens, stretching from Tivoli Park towards the west of Ljubljana. In the late 19th century, this suburb was discovered by wealthier citizens, who started building their villas, but the situation changed after the Second World War. Some of those villas were used as social housing up to the early 1990s. In the middle of the gorgeous houses and lush gardens, several university institutions and student dormitories were built in the mid-1950s.
