At the end of the first millennium BC (around 27-25), the north-east part of the Iberian Peninsula became part of the Roman Empire which extended from Egypt to Cape Finisterre. Although creating a politically and economically uniform territory, ethnic and cultural diversity persisted. This vast territory was crossed by thousands of kilometres of roads marked by milestones, assuring the circulation of people and goods.
