A series of monographs (including photo-monographs) of Sarajevo were published in the second half of the 20th century to commemorate the anniversaries of the liberation of the city during the World War II, should be looked upon as a part of a larger project of general modernization of the country and the improvement of standards of urban life in the context of developing a (new) socialist society. In addition to the characteristics of these processes, the analysis of the structure and contents of such publications reveals the role of architecture in the public domain, and allows us to understand its cultural dimension.
