When I started to think about writing an article on the house of Tom Pavelić in Zagreb’s Rudeš district, the title was the first thing that occurred to me. “Heart-shaped box” is a candy box in the shape of heart, but in the play of words it is both a box shaped with heart and a box shaped like heart. “Heart-shaped box” is also title of a Nirvana song, a song weird in the Cobain manner, inspired by a documentary about children with cancer. It is impossible to think about things and entirely exclude the associations, reminiscences, connotations which these things bring to mind.
