The Exhibition by Álvaro Siza and his late wife Maria Antónia Siza

17/06/2016

On Saturday 11th of June in Oris House of Architecture we opened the exhibition of Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza and his late wife Maria Antónia Siza. Alvaro Siza joined us for the opening and he delighted the audience by spending time with them and signing their catalogues.

The photography from the opening can be seen here.

Apart from two catalogues, which can be bought together for 4 euros, Oris House of Architecture has prepared signed prints of Alvaro Siza’s work, three themes, each for the price of 130 euros and the collection of prints for the price of 325 euros.

The drawings of Álvaro Siza show religiousness as a theatre of humanity. This dramatic story about the social disorders and hopes can serve to him (and to us) as a mirror. But, in order to stay faithful to the humane, in between the lines, we can discern a definite and pulsating enigma.

Maria Antónia Siza developed her own vocabulary and by doing it, she did not exclude the possibility of a type of mannerism. Similar characters in similar constellations often reappear fostering the suggestion of thematic units. We cannot avoid recognizing the kinship with the theatre – the characters of those dramatic scenes are often costumed, and the gesture seems to be led by the instructions of an invisible stage director.

The exhibition in Oris House of Architecture will be on view till 31st of August 2016.
