ORIS ZAGREBGRADNJA AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT

3LHD, HOTEL LONE, ROVINJ, CROATIA

Harmonizing public and private domains is one of the main goals in progressively oriented architectural practices. This mediation between commercial interests and attempts to offer citizens motivating and accessible urban scenes is a challenge which is also solved on the level of architecture itself, regardless of conventions and limitations. 3LHD are successful precisely in this dual intention: they have a meticulous response to the task of designing an elegant and comfortable hotel and in the process they create impressive exterior and especially interior public spaces. A formally exciting hotel hall is at the same time a roofed square, filled with diverse programmatic offer, as well as with innovative Croatian art and design. 3LHD expand the modern tradition of a hotel on the Adriatic Coast and realize a hotel that is not merely accommodation capacity, but is also place for socialising and a kind of gallery of contemporary visual culture. 3LHD have made a contribution to the local community that also responds to the demands of the tourism industry, and have offered an expanded concept of a hotel as well as indicating the evolution of the leisure landscape.
