The opening of the exhibition Intermundia in Pula

11/12/2015

The exhibition Intermundia curated by Ana Dana Beroš will be opened this Saturday, 12th of December, in the Temple of Augustus in Pula at 9 pm.

Intermundia is a curatorial and research platform created by the architect Ana Dana Beroš. The project was presented at the last Architecture Biennale (2014) in Venice as a part of the exhibition Mondo Italia in Arsenale, which was curated by Rem Koolhaas, director of the 2014 Biennale.

Intermundia is a project based on the research of the shifting landscapes of trans-European and inter-European migration. It displays the case of Lampedusa, Lampedusa being the metonymy for all contemporary prison-like conditions that are met at the gates of the fortress of Europe. Instead of looking at Lampedusa as a waiting room in the zone of conflict, the project brings up the issue of ambivalence of the in-between states and the (im)possibility of cultural mediation between the (im)migrants and the local community. The idea behind the exhibition is to motivate the visitor to always approach the world on a level that is deeper and multifaceted or, if put differently, to make him/her see all the alternative worlds that surround us.

Ana Dana Beroš (1979, Zagreb) is a freelance architect and a curator. She graduated magna cum laude from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. She is a cofounder of the group ARCHIsquad –  a division for architecture with conscience. She was one of the finalist of the Wheelwright Award given by Harvard University (GSD) for the year 2014. Her project Intermundia was given a special mention by the jury at Fundamentals, Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2014).
