Exhibition of photographs Tanzania in the Heart will open on Tuesday, 7 May, at 7 p.m. in the Oris House of Architecture.
It will present photographs of Dubrovnik based architect Božo Benić, taken during his volunteering engagement in Africa. As a volunteer of the Kolajna ljubavi humanitarian organization, Benić visited Tanzania on two occasions; from June to August 2015 he ran St. Anthony’s orphanage in Songea and coordinated the education sponsorship programme, which helped more than one thousand children and the young from all parts of the country. In January 2018 he returned to Tanzania to monitor the construction of a water supply system in St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Monduli Juu village in the north of the country. The project was supported by funds collected in Dubrovnik for Africa: Water Drops – Ocean of Love humanitarian action Benić initiated in cooperation with St Michael the Archangel Parish from Dubrovnik. The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness of the circumstances of life in Tanzania and present activities of the Kolajna ljubavi organization.
The exhibition is realised in cooperation with Dubrovnik Museums and with the support of the City of Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Tourist Board, Kolajna ljubavi organization and St Michael the Archangel Parish. It will go on until 25 May 2019.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Božo Benić (Dubrovnik, 1987) graduated at the University of Zagreb – Faculty of Architecture. As scholar of European mobility program Leonardo da Vinci, he was trained in the Spanish office Menis Arquitectos in Canary Islands. He is also the founder of private architectural studio in Dubrovnik and Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb. From 2016 president of the Dubrovnik Architects Association and a member of the Presidency of the Croatian Architects Association. As a volunteer of the Kolajna ljubavi Association, he visited Tanzania twice – first time from June to August 2015 and for the second time in January 2018. In Tanzania he was administrator of the St. Anthony's Orphanage in the city of Songea and the coordinator of the program Kumstva, which provides education of more than a thousand children and young people across the country. At the end of 2016 he organized the humanitarian initiative Dubrovnik for Africa: A drop of water - the ocean of love. In this initiative 30,000 euro have been collected and a water supply system was built in the parish of St. Francis in the village of Monduli Juu on the north of the country. A travel book about his volunteer experience and life in Tanzania is going to be published very soon.
