Exhibition Catholic Church in Podgorica
14/11/2018
We are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition titled Catholic Church in Podgorica that will be held on Tuesday, 20 November 2018 in Oris House of Architecture (Kralja Držislava 3) at 7 pm.
''The Catholic Parish Church in Podgorica is one of those architectural achievements that have long waited for the recognition and valorization that they deserve. Little known to the Croatian expert public, it is the work of Croatian architects Zvonimir Vrkljan and Boris Krstulović, and it represents extraordinary contribution in the context of Croatian contemporary architecture. Vrkljan dealt with sacred architecture systematically throughout life, and Krstulović was his assistant at the time when the project was being made. The church was completed in 1969 and within the architectural expression it represented a novelty not only in sacral architecture but also in the overall architectural scene of the former state, and with its quality it superseded all sacral realizations in Croatia from the period of socialism. The appearance and power of the work show the potential of architecture in social engagement and transformation in ways that are still relevant today, making it unavoidable in current contemporary architectural aspirations.''
